Pharmacist in Patient Health Care
If you ask from any person- the meaning of pharmacist, definitely the answer will be the person who manufactures drugs and sale drugs at retail shop. Pharmacists have an important role to play in health care, which is much more than just manufacturing & selling medicines.
The first question every times comes in to the mind of any pharmacist is its reputation or its value in the society. But can you ask single question from yourself, what I am serving to the society? What I am doing for the humanity? Am I using and implementing my knowledge properly? And at last what I am giving to the society so that society can give me recognition just like other health care professionals?
This is a right time for pharmacists to come up with its full strengths to serve the society and to give right direction and reputation to the pharmacy profession. In short pharmacist can be described as a caregiver, communicator, decision-maker, teacher, lifelong learner, leader, manager, and researcher.
If you see, the number of non-prescription drugs for the treatment of common diseases and the availability of prescription drugs without prescription is increasing day by day in the market. Here the role of pharmacist is to ensure that necessary drug information and encouragement to safe and effective use of drug come in to the picture. Pharmacist can improve or even helps in the maintenance of a quality of patient’s life as well as boost up professional relationship between the patient and the pharmacist
In next blogs I will try to focus on ACPI (Association of community pharmacist of India), Manipal and how ACPI step by step moving ahead in patient care.
