Think for the Next to come as the best !
Dear All, I was in a mood to post a comment on the Topic: “Pharmacy Graduate – Jack of all trades, Master of none” submitted by my fellow Pharmacist, which I think was not wrong but while creating, my thoughts framed into something for which I was thinking to post from the beginning of this competition started to flow of automatically and shaped into a small blog entry.
Well the reference blog is right in judging the actual state of the Pharma - graduates but I think specialization at the graduation level is not the only solution for this. We have to look forward in some other way. It needs some reformation in the hierarchy of the subjects we study in 4 years.
One more think I would like to say, that Pharmacy is a professional degree course and it is difficult to get a firm grip on all subjects those demand skills. As was suggested about the specialization at graduation level, I think is not feasible if we consider the other aspects of B.Pharma degree, also the facility for doing specialization is already provided in Post graduation level i.e. M.Pharma degree.
The reason why I am not going with that point is that, it will degrade the importance of the M.Pharma degree and will not provide the basic knowledge of other important subjects which we study in B.Pharma as well.
For shaping Pharma – Graduates as the “Jack of all Trades, Master of All”, the system needs change drastically right from the beginning. Let’s have a look on some points which I think could make some difference at this level.
1. Synchronization is required among all the degree courses D.Pharma, B.Pharma and M.Pharma. Right now these courses don’t have any link between them like for an example if a student comes into B.Pharma after pursuing D.Pharma has to study again the same things which he had studied earlier in a very short duration of two years. Also on exploring his knowledge there hardly seems any difference.
2. Semester system exploiting the quality of studies. Today’s educations system is getting professional on the cost of the quality. Semesters are one of them in my view. Studies in sem. are not only puts pressure on the students but also eating the basics of knowledge. Students throughout the year study only for the terms and sem. exams but not to gain knowledge because each subject needs time which got fragmented in sems. Subjects which should go in continuation are divided into parts that lead to miss the links between the same subject results into No fruitful result. This is a very serious problem in my views which is away from the eyes of everyone.
3. P.C.I. had to give an eye on all the mushrooming institutes those assures to give B.Pharma without any infrastructure, any laboratories. While creating my last blog entry about “High Throughput Screening” I came to know that some education institutes of U.S.A. are planning to put screening instruments in their institute for students to give knowledge about it before they go out into the industry. I think it’s like a dream to have such think in our country’s institutes (excepting few, even not sure about them!) to have it for students at graduation level. That is the difference we face in the education system of all the disciplines, excluding the few big institutions which are countable even on a child’s finger.
4. We all are good thinkers but not the excellent executers: This is the biggest problem and we all are its sufferers. We all know the changes we must have for the development of something but the person to initiate it is an “Alien” for all and if some how he landed on earth everyone get scared from him and try to kill him by killing his revolutionary thoughts……! This is the fact and we all are aware of it but what next….. This next could turn up by us because we only tagged as Generation Next…!
5. Hoping for the Next to come……

I am not sure about it
I am really concerned about the role of the bodies like AICTE, PCI in the maintainance of standards in the institutes. They do formality job and its give and take relationship between the inspecting committtee and the institute. The actual condition is far more different, the staff is not of qulaity, just filled for namesake, infrasturcture just to show and attract students; I can't really explain all those shortfalls here but as I say I doubt, unless and untill some firm decision making body comes in pharma field their seems no improvement.
(What I have mentioned implies for some institutes and not all. I agree some institutes are producing really quality students, but what about others?)
Still waiting for my fifth point......!
Thank you!
I know some where or the other our thoughts shows similarity because we all wants the best to have so that we have a strong foundation which helps us to serve more to the society.
That’s why my feelings are close to you as well but still I want participation of other intellectual minds for completing my last but Not the Least “Fifth Point” as modification is the demand of time.
So waiting for your valuable suggestions …….
Hi Akshat
Your feelings are close to my heart. Yes U r right in all the sense. Very Good.
Now-a-days shall we feel that the subjects were totally covered and delivered to students in a proper way? No, not at all; only thing required by colleges is, "Survival of the Best Fit" I mean timely escaping from the sight of authorities. ACING STAFF role was tremendously increased and spoiling the career of budding students who were being released into these compeitive world without complete knowledge.
