Overview of BIOINFORMATICS
BIOINFORMETICS
Bioinformatics involve the statistical, mathematical and computing methods which aim to solve biological problems using amino acid and DNA sequences and related information. It is ased on the principle of computer science, biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics
APPLICATION - Bioinformatics have been very essential in determining the genetic measurement of biodiversity, analysis of gene expression and gene regulation, study of comparative genomics, microbial genomics including molecular medicine. It is useful in studying the agriculture, DNA forensic, anthropology , evolution and human migration.
Bioinformatics involve various databases which are characterized on the basis of
1. Data types - Taxonomy database and Genomic database
2. Maintainer Status - NCBI, EBI
3. Technical Design - Flat file, XMl
4. Data source - PUBMED, GENBANK
5. Data access - Publically available databases NCBI, browsing
6. Other- Annotation, completeness
These databases aim to store and provide the data at one place by multiuser data access. These databases are characterized as per there; Quality, Dynamic nature, Accessibility, heterogeneous content, Hierarchy data organization and complex data type.
Bioinformatics researchers have organized a collaboration called International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration (NSID). It consist of
1. DNA Database of Japan (DDBJ) of National Institute Of Genetics (NIG)
2. GenBANK of National Center For biotechnology Information (NCBI)
These databases include the information submitted directly by scientists, genome sequencing groups and sequence taken from literature and patents. Data is exchanged using a common format. Access to these databases is provided by different ftp and www interfaces . Thus the collaboration allows us to refer a single database or to a collaborated data library.
