Gangliosides are complex glycosphingolipids which are foun mainly in ganglionic calls. These are derivatives of cerebrosides and contain one or more N-acetylneuraminic acid bound ceramide oligosaccharides. Defect in their degradation results in gangliosidosis, tay-Sach's disease.
