Statins inhibit HMGCoA reductase enzyme.This leads to decreased production of apo B containing VLDL particles and upregulation of LDL receptors.chylomicrons and VLDLs are the major Triglyceride trafficking lipoprotiens.Statins that inhibit cholesterol synthesis, will upregulate the most LDL receptors and enhance maximal clearance of the TG-rich VLDLs and chylomicrons. 

Statins increase the HDL-C levels by inhibition of rho-signaling pathways with activation of PPAR-alpha.
