These are certain gastrointestinal factors secreted by the intestinal mucosa in response to the carbohydrates present in the lumen wall. Their role is to stimulate beta cells in the pancreas to secrete INSULIN. These act by amplifying the stimulatory effects of glucose. They reach pancreas by systemic circulation.
