Overview

Cold sores are generally blsiter like structures that may appear anywhere near lips, nose or mouth; or in their vicinity...They are tiny, but painful and at times might be quite painful so as to distract attention from performance of works by the infected person.Cold soresa are generally triggered up by virus, particularly Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) type I. They are also called as fever blisters, althoug hthey have nothing in particular to do with fever. They are filled with liquid, spreading of which to other places of body or to different person upon contact, might lead to infection of that new area of the new uninfected person.

DRY EYE DISEASE (DED)

Your rating: None Average: 2.2 (6 votes)

DED occurs when the eye does not produce tears properly, or when the tears are not of the correct consistency and evaporate too quickly. In addition, inflammation of the surface of the eye may occur along with DED. If left untreated, this condition can lead to pain, ulcers, or scars on the cornea and some loss of vision. However, permanent loss of vision from DED is uncommon.DED can make it more difficult to perform some activities, such as using a computer or reading for an extended period of time and it can decrease tolerance for dry environments such as the air inside an airplane.

Other Names for DED
DED is sometimes called
1)dry eye syndrome
2)keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS)
3)dysfunctional tear syndrome
4)lacrimal keratoconjunctivitis
5)evaporative tear deficiency
6)aqueous tear deficiency.

Types of DED
There are two basic types of DED.

Prevalence of Tuberculosis: Global Incidence and Epidemiology

3
Your rating: None Average: 3 (2 votes)

This blog is purely intended to exhibit the pretty high incidence rate of Tuberculosis globally. It would be pleasent for me to recieve comments, criticisms and discussions of all types.

Tb has achieved a high incidence throughout the globe, primarily due to many reasons like emergence of multi-drug resistance strains of M.Tb, poor sanitation and personal hygiene in developing and underdeveloped nations, super infection by HIV etc. Tb infection has a pretty high figure of infecting about one-third of global population. Among these infected populations, many don’t show the symptoms of infection due to the dormancy of the mycobacterium inside the host. However, it is claimed that about 10 % of them develop life-threatening situation during the course of their lifetime.

Here is a blog for all the cosmetically active and beauty concious readers. Obese and overweight people would surely love to take a look at this topic. However, beware of all the cautions meant in this domain.

Purpose

Liposuction as, the name indicates, is a method meant to 'air' out the excess fat deposition out of the body. It could be done ant any place where excess fat is deposited (identified by a doctor). It is a surgical process and can be done by an expertized cosmetic surgeon. This would shape up the body according to the taste, like and expectations of the patient. It is more of a 'look' rather than a 'neccesity'.

Method of surgery

It consists of 3 parts:

1) Suction pump

2) Non-collapsible tube

3) Canula

Painkillers could lower blood levels of Prostrate-Specific Antigen (PSA)

2.25
Your rating: None Average: 2.3 (4 votes)

Introduction

A new research has found out a probable connection between serum levels of Prostrate -Specific Antigen (PSA) and few NSAID like Ibuprofen, aspirin etc. This study was carried out first by Dr. Eric Singer, a urology resident at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York.

Details

It was reported that these painkillers could reduce the PSA level in blood. However, it has not been established yet that these would prevent ot cure prostrate cancer. Such a link was found out for acetaminophen too. But it could not be supported dramatically by statistics.

Singer and his colleagues analyzed data from 1,319 U.S. men over the age of 40, they found those who took non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs nearly every day had PSA levels that were about 10 per cent lower compared with men who did not take the drugs.

Nanotube Longboats: Novel mode of Anti-Carcinogenic Drug Delivery

2.5
Your rating: None Average: 2.5 (4 votes)

Introduction
This time its a new big-bang, but in medicine! Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a 'giant' technology in medicine- Nanotube Longboats. This research work has been lead by Stephen Lippard.

Details

The researchers had attached a modified version of anti-carcinogenic drug cisplatin and also folic acid to those carbon nanotubes. They report that these nanotubes would kill selectively the cells expressing the folic acid receptors. These receptors are expressed numerously in cancer cells; much more than normal viable cells.
Besides this, another anti-carcinogenic drug paclitaxil has also been loaded onto these nanotubes and their effect observed.
