Aurobindo Pharma has received final approval from USFDA to manufacture and market Fluconazole tablets 50mg, 100mg, 150mg and 200mg.Fluconazole tablet is the generic version of Pfizer’s Diflucon tablets and is indicated for the treatment of fungal infections.

Seroquel XR gets USFDA Nod for bipolar disorder

Astrazeneca announced that the USFDA has approved once daily Seroquel XR (Quetiapine Fumarate) extended release tablets for the acute treatment of the depressive episodes associated with bipolar disorder, the manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar treatment and the maintenance treatment of bipolar disorder as adjunctive therapy to lithium or divalproex. Seroquel XR is the first medication approved by the FDA for the once daily acute treatment of both depressive and manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder.

Treatment to halt Alzheimer’s disease

The scientists at Alzheimer’s Association International Conference on Alzheimer’s disease (ICAD 2008) in Chicago revealed major breakthrough in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. It is the first drug to act on the tangles discovered by Dr Alois Alzheimer over a century ago. The team at the University of Aberdeen (UK) working with TauRx Therapeutics a Singapore based company spun out of the University developed a novel treatment based on entirely new approach. It targets the tangles, aggregates of abnormal fibres of tau protein forming inside nerve cells of the brain.
