Why pharmacare?
What is Pharmacare and why it is stressed now are the common query I encountered from many over phone and in person. Well a google search on 'pharmacare' takes us to hundreds of sites, some related to hospital and many private enterprises offering placement, quality tests for drugs, education and many more on various facets of pharmacy. The PharmDs whom I met during the course of my interaction while issueing their Reg Pharmacist certifcate on the other hand lacked luster and brightness on thei face and majority of them were found uncertain about their future in India. They were unable to sell their knowledge and I felt thyat they are looking for some one to take them. Many hospital HR people come to me asking for database of pharma cists and when I give them the database of PharmDs they get confused and ask me how their services could be used and whats the benefit. The Director of one of the major specialty hospital asked me once for a program for the pharmacist under pharmacy. He wanted it to be unique that could be supportive to pharmacovigilance program of Government of India. The above write up came out from me to answer all these issues.Pharmacare is the need of the hour in Indian hospitals to ensure Zero defect in therapy.
Besides, Mr Raghukiran a B Pharm qualified Seniour Pharmacist in Govt of Karnataka Health department asked me how the scheme could be adopted in the Ayush and NRHM program.
Well, I wish to underline that Medical care starts the moment the Health care fails. During my service in the Health & FW Department, I have found advance clues on the disease patterns like epidemics and endemics in the movement of drugs. Thus, the pharmacist and the pharmacy would be very useful to alert the healthcare team, if they are properly recognized and utilized. It is undortunate that such a sensitive and sensible aspect of pharmacy is considered as outcast in the Indian Health policy and sector.
Hence this blog. Hope this will help the Pharmacists in getting their due scope to serve in the Indian hospital.
