Turmeric paste

Dear friends
Turmeric has many uses. But one important new addition to the list, found in our labs is, turmeric paste applied on breasts of female rats prevented breast cancer. This application was found to be more useful than oral administration of turmeric.
Work is still going on , on this aspect.

Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology in designing
Drug Delivery systems
Friends, I want to tell you all about some interesting things that I learnt when I went to Chandigarh to attend a conference on nanotechnology in February 2006 in NIPER.
Nanotechnology is immensely useful in designing drug delivery systems that can be used in targeting. Nanoparticles or nanoemulsions help in targeting drugs to a specific site, in reducing the dose to be administered and in reducing unnessary side effects.
When materials are broken down into nano size they look and behave differently.

Points on nanoparticles :
1.Surface to volume ratio increases
2.Surface properties change
3.Their optical, electrical and magnetic properties change.
4.Nanoparticles look and behave differently.
5.High chemical reactivity
6.Site specificity
7.They can be used as carriers for small drug molecules.

Bitter Experience

All was well but i have been through a bitter experience of my life during the annual examinations.
Our college is not selfcentered and we are supposed to take our examination at the government degree college. On the notorious day of the inorganic examination this worst incident happened. After resieving the paper everyone started writing and it continued till the one hour bur after that the squad caught hold of one my friends who was involved in the malpractise. It was not simple as they were found exchanging papers and the squad was stubborn and he justified his duty by booking a case against them . It mite appear common to many as these incidents are frequent in professional colleges but the incident was bittter as the persons involved in the malpractise were not allowed to write any further exams and they got deatined and they were challenged to prove thier innocence before the special committee.

Dear Rameshwar Reddy
We can all see that you were only feeling bad that a classmate got into a bad route and thus got a bitter experience. I am sure you do not support such things.
I was only phylosophising.

My first Achievement

Ahievement to many may sound as winning prizes and bagging fame but to me it is just upto the individuals in thier own terms and for me i feel i have achieved any thing if that brings happyness to me and to my parents that is what i define for myself.
To justify the way i have considered as achievement i cite an example in my real life.In the month of march a collective gathering of the colleges affliated to the kakatiya university was conducted under "RECIPE" and i represented my college for the event debate. To my surprise the rules were strange . The rule was that there had to be two participants and one has to speak for the topic and other partner has to speak against the topic which i found nowhere except there.

Dear Ram, the way you think comes in very few minds...I really appreciate you great success and even I am proud to be your pal, friend! Great going...You will have a bright future...

Rameshwar Reddy's picture

Dear Gupta,
Thanks for your good words which encourage me a lot and i expect you have a better future than me.......

vijayaratna's picture

Dear Rameshwar Reddy
I want to congratulate you on your fine spirit. Participation is the important thing. But it surprises me to know that you do not know that debates are conducted for teams. All the more reason for you to participate in many more events. This time when you are participating in an event , make a call to the organisers one week ahead and prepare well. You must develop a great hunger ( Kasi in Telugu , not akali) for success. That is when you will succeed.
I want to tell you one experience. When I was a student of B.Pharm , way back in 70s, I used to win almost all the prizes in elocution competitions and in debates. But very few people were participating and I was not really feeling the happiness that comes out of success. Then one day a debate was announced on the topic "generics vs brands". in the one week time available I prepared well on both "for generics" and "for brands". This is because I was planning to grab success over one important opponent. After entering the hall I asked our organiser ( our senior) to keep my name after this opponent ( another senior who is now a well known professor and scientist and a great friend also to me ) speaker's name.
Well, He spoke for generics. Then immediately I went and spoke for brands. ( When you want to defeat somebody you must take the opposite side). Our professor who was the judge that day was greatly impressed by both the speeches, left the hall without giving his decision but eventually i was declared as the winner.
Thats a big story I told, but my bottom line is this, Develop a great yearning for success, and success will be yours.

Rameshwar Reddy's picture

Dear mam,
I do what you have exactly insisted but i felt strange was that in debate as a team we have to oppose or support the topic but one of us was to support and viceversa which i found nowhere i am sorry id i couldn't express the point clearly

Dear Rameshwar Reddy
Ignore the story I told. It is only a memory which came back to me of my young days when I used to be rather super focussed on this type of extracurricular activities.
The format of debate is this:
Suppose the topic is generics vs Brands.
Each college that participates in the debate sends a team of two members; one of the two talks in favour of generics and another in favour of brands.
Prizes will be given to the best performing teams and sometimes also to best individual speakers.
I also want to emphasize the point that when you are preparing for a debate , prepare well by gathering a lot of information and by knowing all the rules of the competition.
Ex; In the first 20:20 game between India and Pakisthan; there was a tie breaker, Bowlers were asked to hit the wickets when batsmen were not there; India won the match because India won the tie.
Pakisthan actually claimed that it never knew about this rule, so did not pactise , so did not win.
Is that the right thing to say for an international team to say?
All the best . More and more achievements will definitely land in your lap.

Dear mam,
I am so touched by your words and i hope your words will come true.....

Final year......

I am into my B-Pharm final year crossing many hurdles and overcoming barriers and clearing the subjects and yes finally am into my last year of the course.
I just recollect all the beautiful moments from my first year. Since i have moved from my parents it was the tought time for me to get acclimatized towards the strange surroundings. The difficulties were countless like facing problems with the water and my new freinds who are the best buddies of mine now.The most memorable moment of my first year was my ragging period.Amidst the strict rules also we were ragged by our seniors and even i enjoyed it. I was asked to dance which was my favourite past time and i had a very good time. But some times it went mean as our classmates broke into tears as they were sensitive and it was upto us to console them and make them morally strong.

Dear Ram, Your blog reminded me of our fresher party and the way we enjoyed it...Even ragging done to us was very enjoyable and the song I had sung completely frightened away my seniors!!! Regarding subjects, I hated pharmacognosy in my 1st year...But the demon has again come to scare me away in 3rd and 4th year!

Dear Gupta,
I am so delighted and i would definitely listen the song if you can sing for me when we meet personally will you do it for me?

All these things we read in book are all theoretical and far away from the reality. But in recent years trends are changing as more and more graduates coming out from the colleges and entry of big companies in the Pharmacy retail chain business.

lucky_pharmacist's picture

I know that these things being theoretical but I feel they are not far from the reality. I had attended some seminars by the association and when I listened to the experiences of customers and the pharmacists I knew these things are going to play vital role in near future. In fact I'll try to represent this idea more clearly in my coming blog.
Although the entry of major players in the retail market has increased the need for better situation in regular pharmacies but the practice has long been working in many of the towns.

Rameshwar Reddy's picture

Dear lakshya ,
I appreciate your idea and i would surely try ro spread this idea

As I always say, your each and every step towards betterment of our profession and people associated with it will be appreciated.

TALENT MANAGEMENT - I

Talent management always remains a source of pain for senior executives in the pharmaceutical companies. Number of companies failing in proper talent management sometimes leads to surplus of talent to its shortfall which ultimately hurts company’s profit objective in long term. You can see a large number of companies have opened up special departments such as talent management department, attrition rate management department etc to fight up with this.

Companies always have two options whether to go for proper forecast and long term planning or just react and take action according to the ongoing situation. First option looks good but in the rapid changing economy one couldn’t guess exactly what will happen in next 2-3 years. Therefore sometimes it does not create any meaning to recruit, select and develop candidates in advance.

Dear Abhi,
The points you made were awesome and the point of the industry would definitely would be fetching to students like me .Please do keep posting such blogs

abhi271183's picture

This is a very important topic and students need to fully acquaint with this so that they can manage talent in better way for their organization in future.

praseengp's picture

you have given nice information my friend..I am eagerly waiting for rest of the topic..

abhi271183's picture

Talent management is always remains a major issue for companies .Company invest thousands of Rupees in the development of single employee therefore talent management is important in order to get higher return on investment out of that.

vijayaratna's picture

This talent management concept is very good. I would like to understand it better and see if we can use it in colleges.

abhi271183's picture

Really this topic is important at each level whether in Industry or in College. By proper talent management we can create proper talent in our organization.
Sometimes developing talent in high amount i.e. quality as well as quantity wise in turns creates a shortage of opportunities for the employees (according to their talent) which ultimately lead to increased attrition rate. Therefore it is very important to understand the need and level of talent development in an organization at each level of job.

Grape Seeds might be good for Alzheimer Patients!

Introduction

A new study conducted by Dr. Giulio Maria Pasinetti of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and colleagues showed that Grape seeds might probably help in mitigating the severity of pathology involved in Alzheimer's disease or may even treat the disease.

Pathology, in brief

Alzheimer patient suffer from cognitive impairment and a decrease in intelligence is observed. The main reason of decrease in cognition is mainly due to the formation of plaques, which are formed due to Amyloid-beta protein clumping and tangles within the brain.

In the post on attitude there is a small error. Manners has to do with politeness and mannerism has to do with certain gestures such as shaking hands or head that people develop when they are speaking. Speakers are advised not to use mannerisms.

guptashubhranshu's picture

I really didn't know this difference in both the words...Iam really thankful to you for correcting my mistake....
