Dr. [Mrs.] Manjusree Pal, a renowned personality in Pharmacist fraternity for her esteemed contribution in Pharmaceutical education, research and professional upliftment had passed away on December 4, 2003 at the age of 69 years. The first lady pharmacist of Eastern India was born on 2nd June 1935 and started her pharmacy education with B.Pharm from Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Banaras Hindu University in 1957. After brilliant under graduate study, she completed her M.Pharm, in 1961 from Andhra University, Waltaire, AP. She started her professional carrier as Research Chemist at Smith Stanistreet Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and served there from 1961-1965.
Dr. M. Pal joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 1965 and served for about 38 years of dedicated service to this department and to the pharmacy profession as well. During her tenure of teaching she completed her Ph.D (pharmacy) in 1976. She had published more than Two hundred research papers in National and International journal or repute, she had three patent and two books with her esteemed research contribution. More than 50 post graduate and 20 Ph D theses have been made through her esteemed guidance.
Dr. Manjusree Pal received lot many laurels for her excellent academic, research and professional carrier; to name a few she was conferred with the prestigious Dr. G P Srivastava Memorial Award for the Best Teacher in Pharmacy from Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India at the 50th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress held at Mumbai in 1998; she received the IPA Fellowship Award in 1995 from Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Mumbai for her excellent professional achievements. She was admitted as a fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry London in 2001.In view of recognizing her great contribution and service, Dr Manjusree Pal was awarded with the prestigious Emeritus Fellowship from the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. She was the President of Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Bengal Brach during 1993-94.
Dr. [Mrs.] Manjusree Pal was one of the dedicated pharmacists who loved the profession by heart. Dr. Pal's contribution to the pharmaceutical field were numerous and uncountable.
