Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza to Receive NIU Golden Anniversary Alumni Award
Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza, Professor of Chemistry, has been selected to receive the Northern Illinois University College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Golden Anniversary Alumni Award. This fall will be the start of the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Northern Illinois University. As part of the celebration this inaugural award will honor individuals such as Dr. D’Souza who have distinguished themselves either in their professional fields or through their involvement in civic, cultural, or charitable service. As an inaugural recipient of this award, Dr. D’Souza has been nominated and identified by the selection committee as one of fifty distinguished alumni recognized, spanning the 50-year history of the college and will now take a distinctive place among its nearly 70,000 alumni. The award ceremony will take place the weekend of September 25-27.
Dr. D’Souza was recently appointed Co-Director for Undergraduate research on a $17.4-million National Institutes of Health (NIH) IDeA grant to the State of Delaware. In addition to his research in organic chemistry, he also has projects in the area of chemometrics, developing commercial databases that assist in the development of new pharmaceuticals. His research has resulted in 52 peer-reviewed articles, $2.6-million in grants, one commercially available pharmaceutical database, and over 150 national and international conference presentations.
