B.Pharmacy means Bachelor of Pharmacy, a professional degree course (undergraduate pharmacy program) in India.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy degree previously offered in USA but now superseded by the PharmD degree and in Canada it is called as the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. B.Pharmacy is a 4 years course running with a goal to educate and train the students as professionals suitable for the requirements of pharma profession in India. ? With the recommendations of Col. R.N. Chopra, Pharmacy subject was introduced in Banarus Hindu University, INDIA for the first time in 1932 under the supervision of Prof. M.L. Schorff. It was introduced with Pharmaceutical chemistry as major subject in that B.Sc course. ? Later in the year 1934, an integrated 2 years B.Sc course was introduced with pharmaceutical chemistry, Pharmacognosy and pharmacy as subjects. ? For the first time, a 3 years B.Pharmacy course was introduced in the same university in 1937. ? Later it was framed as 4 year B.Pharmacy course.

What is the eligibility criteria for this course?

? Senior secondary examination or Intermediate (10+2) pass with M.P.C or Bi.P.C background. ? Admission is done through counseling mainly based on state level entrance test respective of that state. EAMCET (Andhra Pradesh) , KCET (Karnataka) , TANCET (Tamilnadu) ? Spot admission for above two categories of students. ? Diploma in pharmacy for lateral entry directly into second year B.Pharmacy, for example via E-CET (Engineering Common Entrance Test) (pharmacy paper) conducted by APSCHE .

How long is the course

Duration of Course: Four years (year wise or semester wise). Generally first year is year wise and the remaining three years are semester wise. Some universities are following total year wise pattern.

How can i select a college ?

Please make sure the college you wanted to join has been approved by AICTE and PCI ((PCI website : http://pci.nic.in/ ) . Approvals required for college: ? Respective University approval, AICTE approval and PCI approval. ? Every year periodic inspections will be done by these authorities and the college needs to be as per their rules and regulations. ? Without these approvals the course will not be recognized and won't get registration in state pharmacy council. And those graduates have to face problem to get seat into M.Pharm or to fly abroad. ? To know whether college is having these approvals or not, one needs to browse the official websites of these authorities.

What can i expect to study ?

Syllabus for B-pharmacy slightly varies from university to university. See B-Pharmacy Syllabus for more details . The candidates have to undergo Industrial Training for one month (200 Hours Minimum) during 3rd year summer vacation.
