The Diploma in Pharmacy program is popularly known as D Pharm in India.
D.Pharmacy is a two years course with main goal is to educate and train the students for practicing pharmacy. This is the minimum qualification to get registered as a pharmacist in India.
Who is eligible to join this course?
Students who passed senior secondary (12th standard or intermediate) examination /12 years Higher Secondary Education Board Exam of CBSE, ICSE and Intermediate Vocational course with bridge course (MPC/BPC) or any other qualification approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) as equivalent.
How can i admit in to the course
Admission is done based on the merit in qualifying exam or based on the Diploma Entrance Test (DET).
How long is the course ?
Duration of course is 2 years.
As a part of D.Pharm course, one has to go through practical training of 500 hrs in some state pharmacy councils approved hospital/dispensary or shop.
How do i select a college ?
Selection of college is very important . College you will studying must be approved by PCI . So, check whether college has PCI approval (PCI website : http://pci.nic.in/ ) . There may be some colleges with conducting course without approval or old aprroval. You need to check current status of the PCI approval. Otherwise though you may get diploma in pharmacy certificate but you will not be eligible work or open a pharmacy (medical shop).

Approvals required for college:
>Approval of course of study: The course of regular academic study prescribed under regulation 7 shall be conducted in an institution, approved by the Pharmacy Council of India under sub-section (1) of Section 12 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948.
>Only a student released from PCI approved college is eligible to get register in respective State Pharmacy Council, SPC to be called as registered pharmacist.
>As per the recent directions of Pharmacy Council of India, prior approval from PCI is compulsory to run D.Pharmacy course in a college.
