Patent commercialization

I got introduced to this site by one of my students, Mr.Lakshya, whose enthusiasm and persistence was quite infectitious. I visited the site and found it very well-organized, easy to use and informative. Subsequently, I provided my inputs for 'my page' and felt the site offered an excellent opportunity to network with professionals across the globe.
My area of interest is Intellectual Property Rights, particularly patents. I am an IP educator and consultant, creating awareness about IP amongst students and also industry professionals. In academic institutes, though filing of patents is quite large, there is need for focussing on commercialization too. Without commercialization, these patents cannot benefit society.
Hence, patent commercialization is a very important area, which requires dedicated and specialized skills. Some call it 'technology transfer' others may call it 'patent licensing' but ultimate aim is 'patent commercialization'- to convert the patent into products, to make it 'return money invested' and bring some recognition (and money!) to the researchers too!
I have personally filed quite a few of my own patents and have a rich experience in commercialization of patents. I welcome people who share similar profiles or even researchers who feel they have done good work, which they want to patent/commercialize.

Dear all,
Let's start something useful. I will start sharing some "IP stories" with you.
Story 1
Anil was a good researcher. He did a good piece of research for his M.Pharm. His guide was sincere. Lab had good facilities. On completion of his work, Anil discussed his work with a pharma industry professional. Industry professional laughed. 'You spent 1 year on that problem- it is already known to industry for past 6-7 years and our company has a patent on that too!"
Anil felt bad and so did his guide. But nothing could be done now- work was over.
Moral of the story
" BEFORE you start your research work, do a search of patent databases, to avoid duplication of work"
It's easy. Please visit www.uspto.gov and search under patents. It's really easy! Another good site to brush up your IPR knowledge is www.bpmlegal.com.
Happy searching!!
Thank U sir...
Good moral from simple example.
We will keep your suggestion in mind to avoid such unproductive things...

Amazing!!!!
Dear Dr.Bansal,
It is good to know that a teacher is learning from another teacher, who is an expert in the field of IP!!! Basically i take classes for our students on IPR for the last three years and i am quite impressed with your way of explanation. In these three years i never knew that such a "dry topic" (Personally i dont think it is) can be explained with the help of such simple but effective examples.
I am currently pursuing my PhD in the field of IPR (it is not technical aspects as i belong to Pharmaceutical Marketing Specialization) and i am sure sharing of knowledge with you would certainly help me in many aspects.
Welcome Sir, Happy to see

Commercialization is important
Dear Dr. bansal,
You have rightly mentioned that it is not only important to get a patent but commercialization is equally important without which there would not be any value for patents.
