Dear Friends, I am very happy to know the relaxing news…With an enthu to know info about Pharmacy common entrance test organizers as an alternative to GATE-PY exam, we had a telephonic discussion with our honorable PCI (Pharmacy Council of India) President, Prof. B. Suresh garu and with his inputs we can take a relaxing breath regarding today’s hot issue GATE-PY… In his own words what he replied to our anxiety:-
“ ………No need to worry about common entrance test for Pharmacy Graduates. Earlier GATE, organized by iit’s was our official exam, now iit’s were not conducting, then other body will conduct, that is our official body PCI.Already we (PCI) sent proposal letter, regarding framing of an ALL India common entrance test for Pharmacy graduates, to Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. We are looking forward for their consideration and permission. As and when we get positive reply from them it will be officially announced. So, Don’t bother about this issue and we will properly plan for the appropriate feature………”
So my dear friends, make this details known to all our fellow pharmacos such that they will be tense free…

This blog is really mind relieving one! As Iam in 3rd year and would be in final year in 2009-2010, I had been tensed after knowing about the decision of opting out GATE-PY...But now myself and also my friends are quite relieved to know about the step taken by PCI...Thank you for letting us know about the same....

But U and all your co-friends has to start new way of preparation I mean to say the coming entrance is not a known one, so U should be alert in all senses, as even we may not expect the pattern/ model etc.

Dear Eswar, Nice to see your dedication in this topic, you have took a good & appreciable step. But as the rule goes once the government gets one proposal, it takes many years to be implemented (MHRD has worst record in this regard). Let's hope that this case goes as exception to it.
It will be really good if the Pharmacy field comes as independent & not subsidiary to medicine or engineering branches. Although we may be grouped under technical or applied sciences but still we do have our own existence. I think this is an opportunity to prove this fact.
If the initiatives are already started we can expect some good results, which will help to resolve the confusion & doubts from the mind of students.

Dear Lucky, it may take time to work out, But still some time is there as for 2009 admissions there is no problem, only worry is abt 2010 admissions, So even by that time if our authorities plan properly means it is happy for Us.

It is great that you took the initiative to contact a top person in the field to get the information. And the information itself is simply great and superb. In fact if GATE is conducted by Pharmacy people it would be much better and easier for pharmacy students. Sometimes , especially in the earlier days , the questions used to look like they were given by specialists in Chemistry or Botany or engineering rather than by pharmacy people. Good if our entrance comes into our hands.

A positive news
Good that you shared this news with the fraternity. It is a sign of pharmacy becoming independent. As you have quoted Dr. Suresh that the proposal is sent to HRD ministry and PCI is awaiting response from the minstry, the time frame is not set.
We know that there would be a general election shortly and if there is a new government formed, again the proposal would linger with the ministry as new minister would take charge.
PCI should vigorously follow up with the ministry to clear the proposal before the general elections so that it would get atleast a year's time to prepare and transform conducting common entrance exam for graduates on the lines of GATE.
Earlier the clearance, better for the students and PCI.

Yes what U said is exactly right and we are mere audiens in that issue and if the PCI body really follows up then we will shortly have good days to have separate organizer...
