It has been reported that Asia is on a high alert for high incidence of Tuberculosis infection that has emerged because of evolution of multi-drug resistant species of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.Tb) against anti-tubercular drugs. To prevent the occurance of any type of tubercular casualty in near future as a result of successful evolution of multi-drug resistant M.Tb species, the WHO has urged Asian countries to take necessary and earliest actions possible against the disease.
According to WHO reports, many asian nations do not have required and appreciable lab facilities and instrumentation to detect and fight against the mycobacterium before it successfully mutates into drug resistant bacteria. Moreover, only 1 percent of the estimated 150,000 people infected with the disease in East Asia and the Pacific have been estimated who are receiving appropriate treatment.
The cause of concern of WHO is the present epidemiological status of the disease; the rapidity with which it's spreading. This causal stuff is something that is worrying the health body. Besides this, the existing unhygienic conditions, droplet infection etc. are among few that are the causes of concern.
WHO also reported that one out of every 10 new tuberculosis cases is multidrug-resistant in China. Multidrug-resistant TB accounts for just 5 percent of 9 million new tuberculosis cases worldwide. It was also reported that drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.Tb) had already had its attack in 2005, killing about 52 people in South Africa.

about new drug for TB
can u give some drugs name which r used for resistance Mycobacterium..for old drugs...
few drugs...
Thanks for the query pratyesh...As far as my knowledge, today even the old drugs are being used as suitable drug combination and that too incorporated in a suitable targetted or controlled drug delivery system like microparticles...Few combinations I know are isoniazid+rifabutine, clarithromycin+isoniazid etc. Besides this even cyclosporin A has been reported to show an effective anti-mycobacterial activity by inducing gamma-interferon production by the macrophages...
Yes...
Dear Gupta, It is in fact happening before our eyes to see some of the patients suffering from TB. As we know it needs long term treatment and in turn multi drug resistant means it's really horrible situation.
U focused new blog. Good. Keep it up.

Terrible situation...
I fully agree that it's a terrible situation in India despite the attempts made... This shows that it would be better to prevent its relapse than to wait for it and try curing the disease by maintaining good sanitation, hygiene etc....
Dear Gupta...
U r correct, it is better to prevent its relapse rather than waiting for it........................

I always support that
Its well said that prevention is better than cure... Its always suggested hence that one must observe evry sort of precaution to be tuberculosis- free...
Need attention
Dear gupta,
Emerging anti-TB drug resistance in India deserves serious attention. So attempts should take to solve the problem of MDR-TB in India, comparatively with observations in other countries.
Its a serious problem...
Really, MDR-TB is a serious problem in today's era...Many numbers of research institutes are making serious attempts to formulate targetted drug delivery of anti-TB drugs like isoniazid, rifampicin, rifabutin, rifapentin etc...
Dear Gupta
Yes, Asian countries are under big threat for tuberculosis..But What is the scenario in India?
You have given a good information.keep it up.
Status in India....
Dear Praseen, thanks for the appreciation...Regarding the present status and awareness of MDR-TB in India, many big research Institutes of the nation are making serious attempts to formulate controlled release of anti-TB drugs with multidrug combinations like rifampicin, rifabutin, isoniazid etc. This obviously shows that there is an attempt made in this direction....
