In this IT world, we have got chances to amuse ourselves through many social networking sites like orkut, facebook, hikut etc. We could read in news that social networking as such has caused many mishaps on the psychology of youths and youngsters and have turned them with a negative impact. But as well-said, every coin has two facets- similarly these social networking sites too do must have some positive sides. Well, since the blogs must relate to pharmacy, I would like to connect pharmacy to these social networks. Lets see if these sites could help elevate the ideology and profession of pharmacy in any way.

Some of the communities of pharmacy in orkut are laid hereunder and correspondingly some of the very interesting posts in respective communities are given. And yeah, you need to have an orkut membership for the site to open up. Here have a look-

There are many such examples just from a single social networking site. Seeing this example, we can see that we have a scope to learn things in our profession from every possible directions. The fact is we must grasp good things of our interest from everything, and neglect the erratic objects from the same. So, how do you feel about this subject? Comments and replies would be heartly welcome!

Social networking

Dear Shubhranshu,
Orkut is banned in many institutes, is it working in your college? Do you think only this single site gives you such groups? There are several sites which are coming up only for the pharma people & also provide Social networking.
To talk about social networking, what do you think about our own Pharmainfo.net? Instead of going for the other social sites I feel if a site which provides a good platform for all the pharma community can also be termed social. In fact the way it has provided us with a platform, a stage where people from all the areas industry, academics, students, teachers, researchers, management people all can come together is indeed what we should look forward to.
What is your take on this?

Re: Social networking

Dear Lakshya, I rather meant about some of the banned social networking sites being put in a position favourable for our profession....That's why I had clearly, rather very clearly stated the term 'We could read in news that social networking as such has caused many mishaps ' in the blog post... This statement clearly includes only those social networking sites which are facing controversies like orkut and all... I rather excluded pharmainfo for the simple reason that this site is universally accepted and is not facing any controversy because its good informative use could be seen very easily. In other groups of social networking sites, I have just tried to indicate that we can learn a lot about our profession even from those sites if we want to learn... So, now what opinion you hold on this?

RE: Re: Social networking

Dear Shubhranshu, I think initially you had not mentioned the word 'banned' in your title. In fact the term social networking is a confusing term which may or may not have all the activities. And I find no reason for which we should look to these sites for gathering knowledge about our field when we have various other authentic sources.
I feel better be safe than to get into some controversial site.

Shubhranshu Gupta's picture

I agree...

Yea, I have added that word later on...Even I know that it is always better to search for knowledge in reliable sites like this site if we have it...Even I do agree that there's no point in going to all those sites for gathering knowledge...What I had intended to indicate in my blog is that we can even extract out good things of our profession from every facet of life; orkut was just one such extreame example of a controversial site even from which we could find atleast some good things of our profession...Now, dont you agree with me?

Ofcourse !

In my view, having our own PHARMA community is good like we are interacting in Pharmainfo.net
Here if we observe a lot of interaction, mutual exchange of knowledge, regular updates... which is not possible in Orkut.
As Mr. Lucky mentioned orkut is banned in some institutes even in ours. And also if we observe that community it is worth enough when a person intentionally get into that community....However for orkut there is a nice craze for catching each other..
This is what I feel.

Exactly...

You are correct...Even I admit that...But the only point I stressed on was that nothing is worthless and useless...One can always abstract a good and useful thing from anything if he wants...This runs parallel in meaning with the previous statement... We can also learn a lot about facts in pharmacy even from a site like orkut, which is banned in many institutes...

Alcohol

Think this way...Alcohol has so many medicinal uses..and it is freely available like orkut. How many people really use it for medicinal purpose..

Shubhranshu Gupta's picture

Another analogy

The illustration given by you really fits perfect...But cant we take that example like: alcohol is banned in gujrat, but still many people use it, either by smuggling or through any other illegal ways...If people want to make misuse of any object they would misuse that anyhow, no matter how it is regulated...We cant stop those people from misusing anything, but certainly cant we start thinking of putting it to a good use, although its freely available?
