Medical representative: Sales job an entry level into the pharmaceutical business
Not perceived as a reputed and an honorable job when compared to many other profession like that of a doctor or an engineer!! This is the perception in India and that is why most of the students are hesitant in taking up a job of a medical representative. But the fact is very different from the orthodox perception attached to this job. To safeguard the interest of the medical representative fraternity there is a professional body called the" Federation of Medical Representative Association of India". In many of the developed country the job is highly paid and well respected.
This is the first step to enter into the sales and marketing department of a pharmaceutical company. If one want to pursue a career in pharmaceutical marketing it is always advisable to start with sales because the job is an experience to understand the minute details of marketing ,to understand the likes and dislike of your customer, to deliver customer satisfaction and hence to generate more bottom line, where the objective of the marketing department lies. Though starting with this job is not mandatory there are other directions as well to finally reach the marketing department of a pharmaceutical company.
Who is a medical representative?
A medical representative is a key link between medical and pharmaceutical companies and healthcare professionals. He works strategically to increase the awareness and use of a company's pharmaceutical and medical products in setting such as general practices, primary care trusts and hospitals. Based in a specific geographical location, and usually specializing in a particular product or medical area. He tries to ensure clients are aware of, buy and subsequently use their company products. They may also make presentations and organize group events for healthcare professionals, as well as working with contacts on a one-to -one basis.
