To seek the registration to practice pharmacy in the country of South Africa ,the applicant have to take permission from the Pharmacy council

Pre-requisite requirements:

Approval from adjudication committee of south Africa pharmacy council

Pharmacy qualification: A graduate deggre B.pharm or a masters degree M.pharm recognised by the pharmacy council of south africa is reuired to apply for the registration

12 months practical training prior to registration as pharmacist

Pre-registration examination should be qualified by the foreign candidate
Examination:

The following examination are to be qualified: 

  • Professional examination-pharmaceutical sciences
  • Pharmacy practice Pre-registration- pharmacist competence

Fee:

Professional examination- 2800 Rands

Pre-registration evaluation =106 Rands +14% tax

Supervised practice:

1 year public sector pharmaceutical community service

All first time applicants seeking registration in South Africa will be required to undertake 1 year remunerated pharmaceutical community service in a public sector institution. Before applying to the South African Pharmacy council for Registration applicants must first contact The department of health to ensure they can be placed in community service once there registration is complete.

Once the community service place has been confirmed applicants will be asked to submit relevant documents to an examination and Adjudication Committee for approval. When approval has been granted applicants will be required to pass a professional examination and a pre-registration fees the evaluation, if these are passed than a after the payment of registration fees the applicant will be able to start work as a community service pharmacist

It is worthy that the South Africa Department of health has stated that posts for community service will only be allocated to persons who are not South African Citizens under certain circumstances.
