The blog is the continuation of the previous blog...

The best starting position for an international marketing job is at the headquarters of an international company. There, a candidate can get acquainted with most of the company's international dealings and can make his pitch for the right position at the right time. Most companies like to have people who have proved their worth working in domestic locations.

However, a career in international marketing can be very challenging. Located far from their head offices, international marketing professionals have to make decentralized decisions, carry out different responsibilities, and deal with various risks. They are frequently tasked to navigate social, economic, and political conditions which they have never faced before.

An international marketing professional is responsible for performing the following functions:

  • Studying the political situation of the foreign country
  • Analyzing the reality of the legal systems
  • Determining the law across border
  • Determining the regulatory requirements
  • Studying the culture and language

  • Performing a cross cultural market research
  • Decisions and strategies on segmentation, targeting and positioning
  • Determining the international product life cycle
  • Branding the product in accordance with the country

  • Deciding upon the method of entry into a particular country
  • Deciding the promotional strategies

  • Implanting the marketing mix in accordance with the need of the foreign country
  • Determining the price of the product
  • Setting up the distribution system for the international trade

  • Handling the legal issues in the foreign country
  • Studying and following the advertising standardization in the country.

After entering an international marketing career one can specialize in many fields.

  • Public relations professional- help companies convey messages about their products across diverse markets

  • Research analyst or consultant- researching new business opportunities in foreign lands.
  • International trade documentation specialist- whose job is to source raw materials and handle import and export documents

  • Finance officer
  • Currency dealers
  • International human resource manager

At present, a career in international marketing is a very promising one. In the near term, the outlook for jobs in international marketing is good, and over the next few years, the sector is expected to grow faster than the average job market.
