This is our last blog on natural excipients.Please give us your suggestion and the content you are expecting from us as blogs.

Natural products.

PETROLATUM
Definition:
It is mixture of purified semisolid saturated hydrocarbons and is obtained from petroleum

Uses:
Petrolatum is mainly used as emollientin topical cream

SPEMACET
Definition:
It is a waxy substance obtained from the head of sperms of whale physeter macrocephalus linn. And other species of physeter (fam- physeteridae).
Uses:
Emollient and in preparation of ointments (rose water and petrolactum rose water ointment), especially cold creams to impart firmness to ointment bases.

VETIVER OIL
Definition:
It is obtained by steam distillation from roots of the plant vetiveria zizanioides stapf (family: Gramineae).
Uses:
It is also used as stimulant, refrigerant, flavouring agent and in the preparation of sharbat, soap, in perfumery and in toilet preparations, as a fixative of volatile oils to hold the scent of a fragrance.
