Now a days media plays an important role in the upgradation of knowledge of the consumer.
The advertisement plays an vital role in that. But as per the Drug & Cosmetics Act, the advertisement of scheduled drugs are prohibited. Then also you will find variety of Ads on many schedule H drugs. These can affect the consumer in other way.
Some prohibitions should be there to regulate such activities.

Advertisement of scheduled drugs
Dear Shiv,
I think most of the advertisements that we see in newspaper or on television are of drugs that do not fall under schduled category. further there are only a few companies who flout the rules. In countries like the US and New Zealand advertisement of prescription drug is legal (of course with certain regulations in place). So, definitely the Indian government has taken measures to prevent this kind of activity.

i-pill
Dear Sir,
I-pill contains Levonorgestrel (component of most emergency contraceptives).
* Levonorgestrel does not comes under Schedule-H drugs.
** Moreover, it comes under Schedule-K (15th class of drugs.
These are not prohibited from advertisements.
and according to its extent & condition of exempt- it comes under the provisions of Chapter-IV of D&C Act, which requires it to be covered by a sale-license.
Similar is the case with some anti-tussives.
Anti-tussives & i-pill
Dear Nikhil,
Anti-tussives are shifted from Scheduled drug to OTC in few countries but still in few regions it is in Schedule. About i-pill, it was just an example & moreover it may be under Schedule K, but still whatever conditions apply that shown in advertisement is not clearly shown that should be avoided. the example of i-pill is qouted to emphasize the effect of that ad on youngster. You must be knowing that even display of sanitary pads are also prohibited in medical stores & that should be dispensed in proper wrapping while giving to consumers, likewise many other examples are there, but while blogging we are supposed to summarise the thing in limited words.
Thanks for the rating given to this blog. Keep suggesting.
Regards
Shiv

Indian point of view
Dear Sir,
You have mentioned about D&C act in your blog, so i put my points/ suggestiones regarding Indian Perspective only, to summarize in limited words.
Your point on anti-tussives being in schedule category in some countries is true).
Your point on effect of ad on youngster is a debatable topic.
There is always a thin line separating what to show & what not to show.
A lot of positioning goes in ads.
My suggestion would be to use general terms as "anti-tussives" and "emergency contraceptives" and not going for brand names.
dear sir, govt should pay
dear sir,
govt should pay strict action on implementation of these laws,so that the consumers can be saved..........
