Pharmexcil - Part I
Dear Friends,
Today i would like to share with you another aspect of pharmaceutical industry. I am going to give you a brief insight of Pharmexcil.
Pharmexcil is basically Pharmaceutical Export Promotional Council. Indian Pharma Industry has made rapid strides in last couple of decades. The exports from India are increasing including Pharmaceutical products. Until recently there was no separate department or council that guided or provided information on pharmaceutical exports. With a view to provide assistance to industry with respect to export of pharmaceutical products, Pharmexcil was established. Pharmexcil is basically carved out from Chemexcil (Chemical Export Promotion Council. Prior to formation of Pharmexcil, information related to export of pharma products was managed by chemexcil.
Pharmexcil was set up in the year 2004.

Re: Pharmexcil
Dear Aishwarya,
Pharmexcil is a department that supports and provides necessary assistance to small and medium size pharmaceutical companies with regard to exporting medicines. No excise duty or tax is required to pay but the department provides necessary information to the companies with respect to these matters.
Companies have to become member of Pharmexcil to get support from the council.

Future of such companies
Dear mantahn,
Good information. I have a query that globally where does actually such companies stands & what is the fate of them Because the best example we saw about Ranbaxy (although different from this one) considered to be one of the topmost Indian based MNC then also overtaken by Daichi, so we can expect such things for these also, isn't it.

Shiv

Ranbaxy and Daiichi
Dear Shiv,
I understand your concern regarding Indian Pharma Companies. But what i have explained in my blog is efforts made by Indian government to protect and promote indegenous pharma industry by supporting their export activities.
Your question is related to mergers and acquisitions which i have not tried to attempt in my blog.

Dear Naman
This council is independent and functions under Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Imports are regulated by import regulations mentioned in Drugs and Cometics Act 1940 in India and FDA has no regulation over Pharmexcil.
