Oana Rujan's picture

This week, the biggest yearly world event for pharmacy students, the IPSF Congress takes place in Cluj Napoca, Romania.
The schedule includes different areas of interest for students and offers them a great variety of events, venues, symposiums, social events, all in a full 10 days package.

Three whole days of the congress are dedicated to the Educational and Scientific Symposia, which I personally got very much involved in, as a coordinator. We are proud to say that all the events so far and the symposiums especially were a great success from our point of view as well as the speakers' and congress participants'.

This year's theme for the Symposiums are current health care issues with increasing importance for nowadays practitioners.

Indian Pharmacy Course is UNIQUE

It has become customary for academicians, especially pharmacy academicians, especially after they return from a foreign tour to exclaim “Oh! The entire world is following one route and we are going by another! Everywhere pharmacy is a profession! A pharmacist is a respected member of the society who contributes immensely to the health of the society! But here in India, we are molding our pharmacy students into industrial laborers! How awful!”

Pharmacists

Rameshwar Reddy's picture

Pharmacists are health professionals who practice the art and science of pharmacy. In their traditional role, pharmacists typically take a request for medicines from a prescribing health care provider in the form of a medical prescription and dispense the medication to the patient and counsel them on the proper use and adverse effects of that medication. In this role, pharmacists ensure the safe and effective use of medications. Pharmacists also participate in disease state management, where they optimise and monitor drug therapy – often in collaboration with physicians and/or other health professionals. Pharmacists have many areas of expertise and are a critical source of medical knowledge in clinics, hospitals, and community pharmacies throughout the world.

On April 1, 2007, the Pharmacists Profession Regulation to the Health Professions act came into effect. This regulation authorized a new scope of practice for Alberta pharmacists.
Under this new regulation, Alberta pharmacists are authorized to,
• Prescribe a small amount of drug to treat the symptoms in an emergency when patient has an immediate need for drug therapy and can not see another authorized prescriber. However, they are not authorized to prescribe narcotics or controlled drugs.
• Adapt a prescription- alter the dose, formulation, or regimen and then notify the original prescriber.
