Acceptable Risk-A story....

Submitted by Nik on Mon, 06/21/2010 - 18:53It is a known fact that highly lipid soluble compounds like barbiturates easily cross the BBB. Also certain non-lipophillic micro molecules as well as macromolecules cross the BBB. The transport of such molecules takes place by one of the three processes:
* Bulk-phase endocytosis
* Absorptive endocytosis &
* Receptor-mediated endocytosis.
Absorptive endocytosis takes place by the alteration of charges and development of opposite charges on the substance and the cell membrane molecules. An example of such transport is the Wheat Germ Agglutinin (WGA).
It must go through...but it is not! Why?!

Drug Prices- Doctor's Perspective
Submitted by Nik on Fri, 05/28/2010 - 04:58 The doctor is an integral part of the healthcare system. He is the professional authority who diagnoses and prescribes drugs to the patients. In a manner of speaking, he "directs" the consumer (patient) of the drug market to buy a product of "his liking".
Drug Prices: Retailer's Perspective
Submitted by Nik on Fri, 05/28/2010 - 04:56A retailer is the terminal part of the supply chain hierarchy. He is the one who sells the products to the consumer (patient). A retailer buys the stocks from the wholesaler or stockist and sells them in retail. He holds a licence to sell, display and deliver drugs from either a permanent establishment called retail pharmacy store/drug store or he may also sell by delivering products to the consumer directly called as itinerant pharmacy (hawkers, peddlers, street traders etc).
