The Answer

>>>Setting up of a National Pharmacopoeia
In the absence of such a reference document, many Ayurvedic drugs enter the export market as nutriceuticals or dietary supplements, thereby evading the drug regulatory authorities of other countries.
The pharmacopoeia should include
1.The botanical identity of plants
2.Other constituents, processing
3.pH [measure of acidity/alkalinity]
4.Content of solids, fats, metals, shelf life etc.
5.It should prescribe the labelling procedure.

>>>Regulatory testing Laboratories
Post-market surveillance for the traditional medicines is an important component of regulation. There are very few laboratories that are accredited under the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).

dear nik..
Thats very nice information about AYUSH..but i had a doubt..in allopathic medicines, the medicines or so called drugs are manufactured by Pharmacists. What about BHMS and BAMS? Who ll manufacture their medicaments? Is that by doctors?

A very good question

A very good question indeed...In ayurveda as well as homeopathy, the practitioner as well the formulator (i.e pharmacist) are the same.Usually in Ayurveda and Homeopathy, the senior practitioners usually diagnose the patients and instruct their pupils to formulate and if the formulation is complex, they formulate it themselves.
