Chronopharmacological findings regarding the use of H2 antihistamines in the treatments of duodenal ulcer are of immediate importance. Due to circadian rhytmicity, basal acid secretion is low during the morning hours and very high at night it is not surprising to find that, there is an optimal time for administering H2-antihistaminic drugs. Once a day ingestion of ranitidine in the evening or evening has been demonstrated to reduce acid secretion at night as well as during the next day.
Preliminary findings also indicate healing rates for duodenal ulcers are improved by ranitidine administration , similar findings have been obtained with famotidine, a single 40mg dose at bed time was effective as 20mg or 40mg doses administered every 12 hours in reducing gastric ulcerations.
