Optimism = Health!
Optimism is considered as a plus point for a human character and it helps the person in accomplishing many dreams. It is the major factor behind the success of a man. Not only that! According to a series of studies, optimists enjoy better health than pessimists. Some magazines like the May issue of Harvard Men’s Health Watch explores possible reasons for this connection.
Many studies have reported that optimism influences health. Among the findings:
• Optimistic coronary bypass patients were only half as likely as pessimists to require re-hospitalization. • Highly pessimistic men were three times more likely to develop hypertension.
• People with positive emotions had lower blood pressures.
• In one study, the most pessimistic men were more than twice as likely to develop heart disease compared with the most optimistic.
These results argue persuasively that optimism is good for health. But people who are healthy are likely to have a brighter outlook than people who are ill, so perhaps optimism is actually the result of good health instead of the other way around.
To counter this argument, scientists have adjusted their analyses to account for pre-existing medical conditions. The studies that made these adjustments found that existing illnesses did not tarnish the benefits of optimism.
One explanation is behavioral. It is possible that optimists enjoy better health and longer lives because they lead healthier lifestyles, build stronger social support networks, and get better medical care. In addition, optimism itself may have biological benefits, such as lower levels of stress hormones and less inflammation.
Finally, heredity may explain some of the link. It is possible that genes predispose some people to optimism, and that the same genes affect health and longevity. So dear friends, be optimistic in every aspects and lead a cheerful life. It will help you to be in fit mentally and physically.

Dear friend, I do agree
Dear friend,
I do agree with your views, but in my opinion a person being optimistic is not an outcome of his own effort. His family and enviornment has a good role in shaping it.
One of my friend was struck with paraplegia and she belived that she could never be normal again. She was brought back to normal life by her optimistic brother..so be optimistic and always see that we impart this quality to others!!!
dear sijo
welcome ..thanking you for the comment. ..As you said, support by the family and others is a big factor . But in several condtions that is not happening. Avoidance of the children caught by AIDS is an example..though they cant recover , cant we make them happy for the rest of the life?
dear sandeep
thanking you for the comment..I was meant to say that the optimism in life generally helps a man to have good health. You have pointed towards a big lacunae in indian hospitals mainly government owned. Expecting more comments and opinions from you..
Patients have the right to know .....
MOHAMED SANDEEP
I believe that the status of health should be informed to the patient; whatever his condition is....It helps to bring more confidence to the patient and thus enhance the chance of recovery and a better health.
But its always a question; in India whether the doctors talk to the patient about his health??? More over they will inform the patient only.
Good hospitals like CMC Vellore cares such things; doctors tell the caretaker of the patient to inform his present condition and the mode of treatment which is decided to be followed !!!!!
