A premier institute under the CSIR founded on 17th February 1951 by the then Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru with a mandate to carryout scientific research leading to development of new drugs/ vaccines/ diagnostics. Out of 16 new drugs discovered/ developed in India in the last 55 years.
