Microwave assisted facile synthesis of substituted 4,5-dihydro-2-pyrimidines as novel antimicrobial agents
Emergence of resistance bacterial strains towards the existing antimicrobial agents is one of the major reason for research and development of newer molecules to defend them. Microwave assisted synthesis is less time consuming and environmental friendly as compared to the existing conventional method of synthesis which was a challenge for the organic chemist. Pyrimidine moiety play important role in antibiotic research. In view of these facts we have synthesized Substituted 4,5-Dihydro-2-Amino Pyrimidines i.e 2-Acetyl naphthalene on treating with various substituted aldehydes (Claisen Schmidt condensation) gave the chalcones which on treating with guanidine nitrate under solvent free microwave irradiation gave substituted,4-5-dihydro-2-aminopyrimidines. The structure of newly synthesized compounds have been established by means of spectral studies. All the newly synthesized compounds showed comparable antimicrobial activity by MIC method against various strains using ampicillin as a standard drug.

1) y should i refer ijper's site if its your own resarch?
2) my 2nd question is left un answered?????????
i am not criticizing u or your research its an appreciable work....but the answers should be your own never ever ask the questioner to go to any reference site this under rates u and your work. may be the person might be your judge. your answers always depict what work u have done????

hi harpreet
your ppt is a good one and your work is also appresiable.
but you havent mentioned any pharmacological profile of this drug which is very imp. for any organic molecule to be used as a drug.
ok. but as you have just presented synthesis it is just on your part. no matter i am having few questions=
1) Is the drug being synthesized in market by some or the other way? and under what brand name is it available?
2) Why we will use the same molecule u synthesized as an antimicrobial agent? does ity have some benefits over other?
3) Is the same microwave assistance possible to synthesize other antimicrobial agents? if yes which ones & if no what are the reasons?
4) what r the factors that might lead to degradation during synthesis? you have not mentioned any drawbacks in your ppt?
overall GOOD job
keep it up and continue such jobs for the bettermebt of pharma industries.

It is economical because of less electricity consumption due to less exposure time and there is little use of various solvents and is environmental friendly method of synthesis which is used for synthesis of titled compounds.

Hello mr.
Hello mr. harpreet,,,
Chalcones....are they compounds with ketone group??
Team: THE COGNITIVE MOLECULES
Sirisha Pingali
www.pharmainfo.net/sirisha
Answer
Thanks for ur comment,
Yes mam Chalcone is an aromatic ketone that forms the central core for a variety of important biological compounds, which are known collectively as chalcones. They show antibacterial, antifungal, antitumor and anti-inflammatory properties. Some chalcones demonstrated the ability to block voltage-dependent potassium channels. [2] They are also intermediates in the biosynthesis of flavonoids, which are substances widespread in plants and with an array of biological activities. Chalcones are also intermediates in the Auwers synthesis of flavones. If u have any doubt please check slide show and slide containing synthesis scheme

A very good research, congratulations!!!!!
Sir, as you have given the spectrum of activity of 4,5-dihydro-2-pyrimidines, what was the concentration at which it exhibited antibacterial activity??? and how far it is better than the other antibacterials like cephalosporins???? and is there any idea about the chances of developing resistance aginst these compounds as baceterial resistance is the one of the major hurdle in antibiotic therapy.
Thanks for ur comment
Thanks for ur comment dear
Suspensions of each organism were prepared to contain approximate 10raise to powere 6 colony –forming units .c/ml .Lowest concentration of a compound which inhibits the growth of the organism completely without visible growth was taken as minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). u can check slide no. 14 for more information in my slide show .

How to fix parameters

Dear Harpreet,
Good Presentation,
My question is that, compared to conventional synthesis, how you decide the parameters like Microwave region, their exposure timing, etc. Is there any particular criteria for that or technical skill required for that.
Best of luck

Dear Harpeet...truely a chemistry man...
Cogratulation for the excellent experiment that you and your team have conducted....you have mentioned that the substituted pyrimidine is effective against bacteria....i would like to know the extent of its effectiveness, can it be used for chronic therapy, and can the molecule be modified structurally to enhace the effectiveness???
Have a good day...:))
