Nano Technology Based Drug Delivery System

Nanoparticles hold tremendous potential as an effective drug delivery system. In this review we discuss recent developments in nanotechnology for drug delivery. To overcome the problems of gene and drug delivery, nanotechnology has gained interest in recent years. Nanosystems with different compositions and biological properties have been extensively investigated for drug and gene delivery applications.

To achieve efficient drug delivery it is important to understand the interactions of nanomaterials with the biological environment, targeting cell-surface receptors, drug release, multiple drug administration, stability of therapeutic agents

Several anti-cancer drugs including paclitaxel, doxorubicin, 5-fluorouracil and dexamethasone have been successfully formulated using nanomaterials.

Brain cancer is one of the most difficult malignancies to detect and treat mainly because of the difficulty in getting imaging and therapeutic agents past the blood-brain barrier and into the brain.

The nanotechnology has become the most important aspect in various fields, and now, the role in ‘Drug Delivery System’ is illustrated in the “Nano Technology Based Drug Delivery System”.

Dear Aditya,

You said several anti cancer drugs are manufactured by using this nano-technoloy right?? But to my knowledge i came tp know that this technology is very expensive method.

Do liposomes come under this nano-particles?

Regards,

dvsnaditya's picture

Thanks for the compliment..
and regarding the query, yes of course it is, as its a recent development. As the technology was developing in the earlier days it used to be costlier than now.. But thanks for the developers who are working with this technology and making it lots more cheaper now-a-days.

Yes liposome itself is a nanoparticle and are used in the preperation of the nanoparticles . The phospholipids are basic materials in the preparation of this nanoparticles. Liposomal based Amphotericin B formulation is the drug for cancer treatment.

hi aditya,
nice presentation
Can you give me all types of nanoparticles at a glance it would be really helpful
Regards,
Aishwarya

Thank you aishwarya .
There are various types of nanoparticles, which are used in various fields.
- Carbon tubes
- Liposome’s
- Nano shells
- Dendrimers
- Quantum dots
- Super paramagnetic nano particles
- nano rods
These are still growing in number and new nanoparticles are continuously being discovered.

hey thanks a lot .
but i have heard about Bulky balls also . Pls can i have information regarding this in brief

dvsnaditya's picture

hello Aishwarya
To my knowledge they can be found in the name of SINGE WALLED CARBON NANO TUBES. If you are able to find them in any other form Please let me know.

Can you name some of the marketed drugs which are manufactured by using this technology?? and even the organisations which are working on it??

Regards,

dvsnaditya's picture

Yes I can
Some of the marketed drugs are: Amphotericin B, Daunorubicin, Doxorubicin,Abraxane35, Doxil.etc

And the organisations are;
National Center for Nano Science and technology- China
National Institute of Nanotechnology - Canada
National Nanotechnology Initiative - united states & etc...

yeah they are Liposomal drugs that are available.. its very impressive..

Well is'nt there any organisation in India working under it??

hello Aditya,
nice presentation...
can you tell me something more about Quantum dots...
Regards,
Sakshi

dvsnaditya's picture

Sorry for the delay Miss Sakahi..
Thank you for u'r compliment......
About the quantum dots:
- These r small particles of semiconductor material, ranging from 1nm - 10nm.
- they absorb any photon with energy.
- these posses unique spetral properties.
- used as chemical sensors, hydrophobic which are biocompatible, in optical fibers
And we can use them for detection of almost any thinh we might want to find.......

expecting that u r satisfied with the information, and if u have any doubts u can ask me....
THANK YOU
