A Cancer treatment with artificial biodegradable cells

Scientists made a “Biodegradable yarn ball” which is filled with stimulatory proteins that boost the immune system. These artificial cells promote T-cells generations which then attack on tumors.

When patient is kept on adaptive immunotherapy, doctors harvest T-cells from the patient’s blood and present them with artificial cells carrying antigens specific to treatment. Present of antigen will provoke T-cells productions which will generates more and more of the T-cells which are then fed back to patient’s blood.

In the previous attempts, these artificial cells were incorporated with magnetic beads coated with antigens which can be easily filtered back from the patient’s blood before it reinjected. But such immunotherapy is helpful when cytokines proteins are present. In this therapy cytokines stimulate the proliferation of T-cells. In such conditions artificial cells did not have property to carry such proteins, so the whole mixture of artificial cells with antigen bathed in these proteins. As compared to adaptive immunology this system can not mimic the natural immune system.

Such biodegradable cells are made from very long polymers which wrapped around bundles of cytokines and coated with universal adaptor molecules that bind antigen and stimulate the battery of reactions. Such “yarn ball” breaks up and release cytokines when it comes with contact with water. The medicament work as like our sustained release dosage form which release the cytokines very slowly, as the T-cells are being stimulated by antigens; thus whole system mimic as natural immune system. This method increases proliferation of T-cells in body by 45 fold.
