Harvard Stem Cell Institute "core" facility being established at Massachusetts General Hospital, Researchers in Massachusetts have succeeded in generating several disease-specific stem cell lines.

The lines will be made available to researchers around the world through a Harvard Stem Cell Institute "core" facility being established at Massachusetts General Hospital, institute co-director Doug Melton said during a Wednesday teleconference.1Those cell lines will helpful in degenerative diseases for which there are no good treatments. The cells will allow researchers access for the first time to cell types of interest, this will open a new door in a stem cell tehcology.2I had published one blog having information about Somatic Cell treatments for therapeutic purpose in which cells were then transformed into motor neurons. http://www.pharmainfo.net/pratyesh/scientists-turn-skin-cells-motor-neurons-als-patients

It describes a similar process, taking cells from patients aged 1 month to 57 years and suffering from one of 10 conditions including Down Syndrome, Parkinson's, Huntington's disease, muscular dystrophy and type 1 diabetes with the pluripotent, undifferentiated stem cells.3It will really helpful to the all those patients suffering with the genetic related cells.
