Health insurance scheme for mentally disordered patients
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment lunched health insurance scheme with the chief guest of The Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar. As per her announcement about this policy; this policy is for patients suffering from mental disorders like autism, cerebral palsy and other mental illnesses.
Government started the policy named ‘Nirmaya’ which would be funded by the National Trust for disabled under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. They will provide an insurance to the individuals up to 1,00,000 Rs. In which people who are below the poverty line will have this at free of cost and those who above it have to pay just 99 Rs per annum to be covered under the same scheme.
The main feature is that that admitted patients of autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and multiple disabilities covered under this policy will not be charged on their hospital expenditure up to 1,00,000.
Ministry is launching this health insurance plan in 10 districts on pilot basis; Central Delhi- Delhi, Kaimur- Bihar, Chandigarh-Haryana, Jabalpur-Madhya Pradesh, Agartala-Tripura, Raeareily -UP, Erode-Tamil Nadu, Ernakulam-Kerala, Ahmedabad-Gujarat and Bhageshwar in Uttarakhand.
Also Ministry has set an agency in each district. Agency will take care of problem of these persons with mental disorders with their appointed representative and supply all the services to help those peoples. A large number of persons will benefit from this health insurance plan in terms of getting quality medical services in their respective areas through this scheme.
