Vitamin A intake may prevent Cleft palate

Norwegian researchers reported that intake of Vitamin A during pregnancy may reduce risk of having a child with cleft palate. Both excessive and deficient of Vitamin A intake have been tied to a wide range of malformations in human and animals. An adverse effects on foetus is not known, but it generally agreed that an intake upto 3.8 mg/ day is safe. As, study included that even though Vitamin A may reduce the risk of cleft palate, it is important to avoid particularly high doses. As for other Vitamins, too little or too much high dose of Vitamin A can be harmful for the foetus.
