Hi Indira, This is just a list of few industries which are initially taken interest in Six sigma and getting benefited. There are many other industries are there. Mostly Pharma industries are working on 3-4 sigma level. But, some MNCs like Pfizer, Merck etc are turning for six sigma based upon need. As pharma sector is process industry type the concept of six sigma is very useful tool because mainly we people focus on processes. Last question is very strange dear. This six sigma concept is basically from Asia may you forget the history this concept is introduced by Motorola which is an Asian one and many Asian company are following six sigma concept.

Dear Uma, I will give you an example from pharma industry. Say, XYZ tablet formulation and development process is going on. In which various unit processes are going like mixing, milling, granulation, drying, compression etc. During formulation development it is observed that chipping arise in every batch despite of changing various excipient related factor. Scientists are not able to understand what might be the problem despite of their hard work. Actually, main cause of this problem is punch geometry, say due to flat punches it arises when it is replaced by convex punches it is solved. This is very minute thing where generally we neglect. Six Sigma study systematically each and every parameter component by component and gives you a root cause as well as solution for the problems which arises during process development. We can apply six sigma any where, wherever process is involved. say for example sitting, walking, talking to fine gene itroduction method, aircraft design any where. wherever there is a scope for improvement in process six sigma can find its application.
