every time we could expect the new questions so its better to have a greater insight
into all the topics.

I. Following are the general essay questions for 10
or 12 marks.

1. Different types of antagonisms with examples

2. Describe phase I and phase II reactions of metabolic biotransformation
of drugs.

3. Drug action mechanism types especially G- coupled type

4. Drug transport across biological membranes

5. Discuss pharmacogenetic factors influencing drug action

6. Describe drug interactions resulting from altered absorption or metabolism
in GIT.

7. Mention different CNS chemical mediators. Discuss the distribution and functions
of Noradrenaline and Dopamine.

8. Classify cholinergic agonists and antagonists based on receptor concept with
examples.

9. Give an account of location, function and transducer mechanisms of the different
subtypes of alpha and beta receptors.

10. Explain most important signs and stages of general anesthesia, mechanism
of action of general anesthetics
.

11. Classify hypnotic drugs with examples. Discuss the mechanism of action and
uses of barbiturates. Why are they replaced benzodiazepines in the treatment
of insomnia?

12. What is depression? Classify the various drugs used in treatment of different
antidepressants. Discuss the mechanism of action and therapeutic uses of SSRI.

13. Classify psychopharmacological agents with examples.

14. Mention behavioral changes resulting from excessive alcohol intake.

15. What are anxiolytic drugs? Classify drugs used in treating anxiety. Discuss
in detail the mechanism of action and uses of benzodiazepines?

16. What are anti-arrithymic agents? Classify these agents, mechanism of action
and also explain their relative merits and demerits.

17. What is heart failure? Classify drugs used in congestive heart failure.
Discuss the mechanism of action, clinical uses and adverse effects of a natural
drug used in CHF.

18. What are anticoagulants? Classify agents used in the treatment of coagulation
disorders and explain the mechanism of action and adverse effects of different
anticoagulants.

19. What is obesity? Explain the role of different antihyperlipedemic drugs
giving their mechanism of action and effects.

20. Classify diuretics. Describe mode of action and toxic effects of
high ceiling diuretics and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.

21.Mechanism of action of thiazide and loop diuretics
and Why Benzthiazide is mixed with Triamterene in an antidiuretic formulation

II . Differentiation and Comparison questions: (6
or 8 marks)

Compare main Pharmacological actions of barbiturates
and benzodiazepines

• Comparison of digitalis and quinidine activity on heart

• Differences between antipsychotic and anxiolytic agent.
