Hello Pharmainfo friends, After a thorough discussion on issues of plagiarism and its context in sharing scientific information, Let me discuss a case study on Plagiarism that created a great havoc in field of Journalism way back in 2003 reported by HNN (History News Network) America. CASE STUDY: It happened in the month of February, Eric Black, a journalist from Minneapolis Star Tribune, St Paul, Minnesota, USA published two great essays highlighting the history of Iraq. A few weeks later in the same month another journalist named Glenn Mitchell published two essays briefing the history of Iraq in Melbourne Herald Sun; Australia's biggest selling newspaper. The thing is that both the essays written by Glenn Mitchell are same word to word with that written by Eric Black. Having noticed this Eric Black concluded that Glenn Mitchell had plagiarized his hard work and published it as his own write up. Black then complained to the Herald Sun, he got the response in June from the paper's deputy editor John Trevorrow he stated as "it is a clear case of plagiarism" and apologized for the conduct of the newspaper. In the same month of June, further investigation was done by HNN (History News Network) of America searched the papers website and they found many articles written by Mitchell in Life style category. They also discovered that they didn't find any article had written on Iraq (It has been deleted) from its catalogues. It was reported to Eric Black by Herald Sun that Mitchell was punished for its ill act but it denied saying what had done to him. But the intriguing thing is that Glenn Mitchell still continues his contribution to the Herald Sun. ANALYSIS: What I can understand from this story is: When Herald Sun had apologized Eric Black, two questions came into my mind are - whether the firm had published the article unknowingly without mere check originality since, it was written by one of the greatest contributor of the paper?? Or it was done intentionally to sustain the good fame of the paper?? I couldn't find any answer to this..... I invite your views on this issue... CONCLUSION: So friends let us move on this platform like Eric Black in the story unlike Glenn Mitchell. I appreciate the efforts of organizers to think us more on plagiarism and its relevance in blogging.
