ALTERNATIVE TO LASER
Hai bloggers, This blog I would like to give an explanation regarding a surgery which is done to the patients who cannot undergo Laser treatment for eye and it is PHOTO REFRACTIVE KERATECTOMY.(1) In this prk surgery * The central zone is flattened so that light passes through cornea and then the lens and will be focused on the retina properly. * Cold laser beams are use (which means the surrounding tissue will not be affected.) of specific wavelength which will vaporize fractional layers of human cell and will leave the undamaged tissue in eye. This technology is called Eximer laser and this used in the surgery. * The procedure is similar to laser but here some tissue on the surface of cornea is removed and then reshaped. * Laser is not applicable for thin corneas and the corneal thickness must be 270 microns and in such cases prk surgery is done. PROCEDURE: ? Surface cells of cornea are loosened using dilute alcohol and brushed with spatula ? Then laser is applied to the cornel tissue present underneath ? A contact lens is placed which acts as a bandage which helps in healing the surface which takes 5 to 7 days(2) DO YOU KNOW? 1.Contact lens are made of a Poly Methyl Methacrylate (PMMA) but because it is not oxygen permeable this was replaced with silicone hydrogels which are highly oxygen permeable. 2.Baush and Lomb is the top company which makes contact lenses.
