Patient Counseling 3
Friends, I want to continue my series on patient counseling. I am writing what we actually told our patients. We took most of the material from United Stated Information for the patient and United States Advice for the Patient volumes and CIMS.Many practicing pharmacists must be reading this. I want discussion on the technical points also. I want to write about how we advised a patient who was prescribed oral iron medication.
. You are given oral iron because you are aneamic. . You are given this medicine for a period of one month and you must use the full course. . Take it every day night, two hours after dinner.
. Iron should not be taken along with any milk food or breakfast or meal because its absorption is severely limited if taken along with food.
. Iron absorption happens faster if taken along with acidic things, like fruit juice.
. Iron absorption is impeded by alkaline things like antacids.
. Oral iron can cause side effects like headache or diahrrea or gastritis. You must manage them if they occur because they will go away after some time. But you should not stop iron use because doctor gave it to you to increase your hemoglobin content- which is essential.
. When you take iron at night you will not feel the gastritis.
. Oral iron will cause your stools to blacken , you need not worry about it. Iron tablets must be kept away from children; as iron poisoning can be especially dangerous in children.
. After using iron for one month you must meet the doctor again and if necessary he will extend the prescription for iron.

Bold pharmacist you
Dear Madam
I have seen may articles saying the need of patient counseling, need of pharmaceutical care and need of different future needs.
This is a bold step that you have done it and published it. It explains more meaning. There is a fear for pharmacists now to face patients.

IT WILL BE DEFINATLY FOLLOWED
IT WILL BE DEFINATLY FOLLOWED BY OTHER STUDENTS ALSO , MAM.THANKS
our III b.Pharm students are extremely happy
Dear Lucky
This type of activities when we get out of the classroom and do something for the community which involves our professional and academic skills, really thrill students. We carried out this counseling activity and two visits, one to a hospital and one to a local bulk drug industry under the banner of IPGA, Visakhapatnam branch. Certificates were also issued to all the students by IPGA and prizes were given to the the students who took leadership roles and active roles in the activities. I can tell you our students are really very very happy about all this. I will also tell you all , they did the necessary homework, trained well, prepared charts, behaved well and gave me no problems.
As for me, I am already thinking when I can take up this activity again. I am helping some affiliated pharmacy Colleges lecturers in training their students to do patient Counseling and I am hoping more people will be enthused by my blogs.
I will be coming out with more information.

So!
That means, by sych extracurricular activities, students will be benefited as well as stimulated in their roles. Even I hope that they will be trained in managing skills also while conducting such type of activities.
Yesterday in our college orientation program for freshers (1st year B.Pharm students) was held and in that we invited some of the interested students on to the dias and speak few words to their new friends and new circle. One of the students named Mr. Adithya cam front actively and expressed his views boldly.
By observing his enthu what I felt is inorder to cope up woth present generation every teacher should be like an updated journal and can take the lead in all aspects, otherwise the students won't satisfy with them.
Thank U mam for giving us such nice things.
I will meet you once for planning such activity in our college too as I hope our students are worth & active enough to participate in such activities.
Thank U mam.
