Alpha V Beta 3 Integrin: A Novel Therapeutic Target
By - 06/20/2005
The integrin alpha V beta 3, receptor, has been the
focus of intensive research because of its major role in several
distinct processes, particularly osteoclast mediated bone resorption,
angiogenesis ( pathological neovascularisation) ,smooth cell proliferation and tumor metastasis. Antagonists, of these receptors are
being evaluated extensively in recent time to develop them as drugs
for postmenopausal osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis ,cancer and as an effective
anti-restenosis strategy that potently limits neointimal growth and lumen stenosis
following deep arterial injury and improve an efficacy of coronary angioplasty
.
However, larger adequately powered clinical trials are yet to prove the efficacy
